The technology behind neurostimulation encompasses several modalities. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) involves surgically implanting electrodes into specific brain areas, connected to a pulse generator that delivers electrical impulses. Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) uses electrodes placed near the spinal cord to block pain signals from reaching the brain. These can include surgical complications, hardware issues, and side effects related to stimulation parameters.
