Neurolyze is a neologism used in speculative neuroscience and fiction to describe either a hypothetical neurolytic procedure or a computational approach for neural data analysis. It is not an established term in mainstream biomedical literature, and its meaning varies by context.

In a medical or therapeutic sense, neurolyze refers to a proposed method for selective disruption or ablation of neural tissue to treat certain neurological conditions. Conceptual implementations might involve targeted energy delivery (such as laser, focused ultrasound, or chemical agents) to interrupt dysfunctional neural circuits. Because such disruption carries risks of irreversible deficits, real-world discussion of neurolyze-like approaches centers on precision, selectivity, reversibility, and ethical considerations. In practice, contemporary neuroablation techniques exist (for example, laser interstitial thermal therapy and other ablative modalities), but “neurolyze” as a term is not a standard clinical label.

In a data-analytic or computational sense, neurolyze can be used metaphorically to describe methods that decompose, interpret, or simplify neural signals. In this sense, a neurolyze tool might aim to extract causal components from neural activity, reduce complex spike trains to interpretable features, or aid explainability in brain–computer interface research. This usage remains informal and is primarily found in speculative discussions or fictional works.
