Neuroendokriininen refers to the integration of the nervous system and the endocrine system. These two systems work together to regulate many bodily functions, including mood, growth and development, tissue function, metabolism, and reproduction. The nervous system provides rapid, short-term control through electrical impulses, while the endocrine system uses hormones, chemical messengers, for slower, longer-lasting effects. Specific cells, known as neuroendocrine cells, are found in both the nervous and endocrine systems and are crucial in this communication. These cells can receive neuronal signals and respond by releasing hormones into the bloodstream. This neuroendocrine axis allows for complex feedback loops that maintain homeostasis within the body. Examples of neuroendocrine pathways include the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which regulates the stress response, and the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, which controls reproductive functions. Dysregulation within the neuroendocrine system can lead to various health conditions.
