Neurobiológia is the scientific study of the nervous system. It is a multidisciplinary field that draws upon biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and medicine to understand the structure, function, development, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology of the nervous system. Neurobiologists investigate the nervous system at various levels, from the molecular and cellular to the systems and behavioral levels.

At the molecular level, neurobiologists study neurotransmitters, receptors, ion channels, and the genes that control their expression. This includes understanding how neurons communicate with each other through synaptic transmission. Cellular neurobiology focuses on the properties of individual neurons and glial cells, their morphology, electrical activity, and interactions. Systems neurobiology examines how groups of neurons form circuits and networks to perform specific functions, such as sensory processing, motor control, learning, and memory.

Developmental neurobiology investigates how the nervous system forms and changes throughout the lifespan, from embryonic development to aging. Neurobiology also explores the genetic basis of nervous system function and disorders, as well as the effects of drugs and other substances on the nervous system. Ultimately, neurobiologists aim to unravel the complexities of the brain and nervous system to understand normal function, as well as to develop treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders.
