Neonatologists often work in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), which are specialized hospital units designed to provide critical care for sick and premature newborns. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that may include nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and social workers to ensure the best possible outcomes for their young patients. Their work involves close monitoring of infants' vital signs, administering medications, performing procedures, and providing support to the infant's family. The goal is to help these vulnerable infants survive and thrive, often overcoming significant medical challenges.
