negyedév is a Hungarian term that literally translates to "quarter" and refers to a calendar period of three consecutive months. In a typical Gregorian year, the four quarters are: January to March, April to June, July to September, and October to December. The exact number of days in each negyedév can vary between 90 and 92, depending on the months involved and whether a leap year is in effect.

In Hungarian finance and business practice, salaries, taxes, and many contractual obligations are often measured or paid on a quarterly basis, using the negyedév as the standard unit. Educational institutions similarly divide the academic year into two negyedévi semesters, aligning with the first part of the year and the second part.

The concept also appears in colloquial expressions such as "negyedévkérítés," which refers to a quarterly request or reminder. Historically, the term has been used in administrative documents dating back to the 19th century, where it described the period over which tax assessments and census counts were to be completed.
