Nefronikalvot, often referred to as nephron tubules, are a crucial component of the nephron, the functional unit of the kidney. These intricate structures are responsible for modifying the composition of the glomerular filtrate, transforming it into urine. Following filtration in the glomerulus, the fluid enters the renal tubule, which is divided into several distinct segments, each with specialized functions.

The proximal convoluted tubule, the first section, is where the majority of reabsorption occurs. Essential substances like glucose, amino acids, ions, and water are actively transported back into the bloodstream. Concurrently, some waste products and toxins are secreted from the blood into the tubule.

The loop of Henle, a U-shaped structure, plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining the osmotic gradient in the renal medulla. This gradient is critical for the kidney's ability to concentrate urine. The descending limb is permeable to water, while the ascending limb is impermeable to water but actively transports ions out.

Finally, the distal convoluted tubule and the collecting duct fine-tune the urine composition. Here, further reabsorption and secretion of ions, water, and urea take place under hormonal control, regulating blood pressure and electrolyte balance.
