navigasjonssatellittnavigasjon
Navigasjonssatellittnavigasjon, often referred to as satellite navigation, is a global system that provides autonomous geo-spatial positioning information to an unlimited number of users. It relies on a constellation of satellites orbiting Earth, each transmitting precise timing signals and orbital data. A receiver on the ground, such as a smartphone or a dedicated GPS device, picks up these signals from multiple satellites. By calculating the time it takes for the signals to arrive, the receiver can determine its distance from each satellite. With signals from at least four satellites, the receiver can triangulate its precise three-dimensional position (latitude, longitude, and altitude) and also determine its velocity and the current time.
The most well-known satellite navigation system is the Global Positioning System (GPS), operated by the United
