Nationalräkenskaperna are the Swedish national accounts, a comprehensive system for measuring the country’s economic activity. They provide integrated statistics on production, income, consumption, saving, and capital formation, along with the financial balances of resident sectors and the rest of the world. The accounts underpin estimates of GDP and its components and support policy analysis, forecasting, and international comparability.

The national accounts cover both market and non-market production and include sectoral detail for households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs), general government, non-financial corporations, financial corporations, and the external sector. They present GDP from three main angles: production (value added by industry), expenditure (final consumption, gross capital formation, exports minus imports), and income (compensation of employees, gross operating surplus, mixed income). In addition, the accounts extend to capital accounts and financial accounts, reflecting the economy’s accumulation and financing.

Sweden aligns its national accounts with international standards, primarily the System of National Accounts (SNA) and the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010). Data are drawn from surveys, administrative registers, and statistical models, with volumes chain-linked to remove price effects and with notes on nominal values, price indices, and revisions.

Statistik Swedens (Statistics Sweden, SCB) publishes the national accounts on a regular schedule, providing annual and quarterly estimates, methodological documentation, and revision histories. The data support macroeconomic monitoring, policy evaluation, and international comparisons.
