The term "nægr" is a Danish and Norwegian word that translates to "Negro" in English. Historically, it was used in a similar fashion to its English counterpart to refer to people of Black African descent. Like the English word "Negro," the Danish and Norwegian term "nægr" is now considered outdated and offensive by many. Its usage has largely been replaced by more contemporary and respectful terminology.

The historical context of "nægr" is tied to periods of colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade. During these times, racial categorizations were prevalent, and terms like "nægr" became part of the lexicon used to describe and often subjugate Black individuals. The word's etymology is rooted in the Spanish and Portuguese word "negro," meaning "black," which itself derives from the Latin word "niger."
