These effects can arise from a variety of factors, including the physical characteristics of the visual stimulus, the observer's physiological state, and their cognitive processes.

One common example is the blind spot, an area in the visual field where the optic nerve leaves the retina, resulting in a lack of photoreceptor cells. Despite its presence, we are generally unaware of it because the brain fills in the missing information based on surrounding visual cues and input from the other eye. Another category includes illusions, where the perceived size, shape, or color of an object is distorted compared to its physical reality. These illusions often highlight the brain's active role in constructing our visual experience rather than passively receiving it.
