Módszerekrl is the Hungarian term used to denote a discussion of methods. In scholarly use, "methods" refers to the structured procedures and techniques employed to investigate a problem, collect data, analyze information, and derive conclusions. Methods can be categorized in several ways. A common distinction is between qualitative and quantitative approaches: qualitative methods focus on descriptive, contextual understanding, while quantitative methods emphasize measurement and statistical analysis. Another broad split is between theoretical and empirical methods: theoretical work develops models and frameworks, whereas empirical methods test them against observed data. Within empirical approaches, experiments, surveys, case studies, and observational studies are frequently used. In computational fields, methods include simulations, algorithm design, and data mining. The choice of method depends on the research question, the available resources, and concerns about validity, reliability, and ethics. Good practice emphasizes transparency, replicability, and critical reflection on biases. Over time, methodological pluralism—using multiple methods to address a question—has become common in many disciplines. In addition to academic research, methods are central to professional fields such as engineering, social policy, education, and software development, where methodological rigor supports decision making and quality assurance.
