Méretig is a Hungarian term used in contexts involving size or capacity. It denotes an upper bound for size, meaning “up to a given size” or “up to the size mentioned.” It is formed from the noun méret (size) and the suffix -ig, which marks a limit or end point.

Etymology and formation: The word combines mér et with the limiting suffix -ig. In practice, it functions to specify that a bound applies to sizes, dimensions, or capacities, rather than to quantities in general.

Usage: Méretig is common in manufacturing, retail, design, and logistics to indicate the upper end of a size range. In sizing charts and product specifications, it helps convey that items are available up to a particular size. For example, a clothing catalog might describe sizes as “36-tól 44-ig terjedő méretek” (sizes ranging from 36 to 44). The expression “méretig terjedő választék” describes a range of products limited by size. In many cases, numerals are explicitly paired with -tól/-ig to define the exact bound.

Notes: Méretig should be distinguished from words like mértékig, which means “to the extent” or “to what extent,” where the bound refers to degree rather than size. The term is more common in technical or commercial language than in everyday speech.
