Målevilkårets typically consists of a simple, rectangular structure with a pitched roof, made from wooden boards. The walls are often made of horizontal wood logs, known as "valmuye", which provide a high level of insulation and durability. The buildings are usually one or two stories high, with an open-concept interior space used for farming equipment and storage.

Traditionally, the Målevilkårets was built using local materials and natural resources, reflecting the rustic and practical nature of Swedish farm architecture. The buildings often featured bank barns, which were built adjacent to the main structure, providing additional storage space for hay and equipment.
