Målevilkårets

Målevilkårets is a traditional Swedish farmhouse building style, primarily found in the provinces of Bohuslän and Dalsland. The name "Målevilkårets" translates to "meadow field year" in English, referring to the building's purpose as a hay field farm during the summer months.

Målevilkårets typically consists of a simple, rectangular structure with a pitched roof, made from wooden boards. The walls are often made of horizontal wood logs, known as "valmuye", which provide a high level of insulation and durability. The buildings are usually one or two stories high, with an open-concept interior space used for farming equipment and storage.

Traditionally, the Målevilkårets was built using local materials and natural resources, reflecting the rustic and practical nature of Swedish farm architecture. The buildings often featured bank barns, which were built adjacent to the main structure, providing additional storage space for hay and equipment. The Målevilkårets buildings were also designed to be easily expanded or modified as needed, reflecting the changing needs of the farmer.

Historically, Målevilkårets farmhouses were used by farmers during the summer season, when cattle and other livestock were housed on the islands and coastal regions of Bohuslän and Dalsland. The island farmers would return to the mainland once the winter months arrived, leaving the Målevilkårets to manage the remaining livestock and crops. Today, Målevilkårets buildings remain as an important part of Sweden's cultural heritage, with many preserved and restored as historic sites.
