Mágneslemez, often referred to as a magnetic disk or diskette, is a type of data storage medium that uses a magnetic coating on a thin plastic disc to store information. This data is read and written by a magnetic head that moves across the surface of the disk. Historically, magnetic disks were a common form of portable storage, particularly in the era of personal computing before the widespread adoption of solid-state drives and cloud storage.

The most recognizable form of the magnetic disk is the floppy disk, which came in various sizes, most notably 8-inch, 5.25-inch, and the ubiquitous 3.5-inch format. The 3.5-inch floppy disk, encased in a rigid plastic shell, became a standard for transferring files and distributing software for many years. Its capacity, while small by modern standards, was significant at the time of its introduction, typically ranging from a few hundred kilobytes to 1.44 megabytes.

The operation of a mágneslemez involves a disk drive that spins the disk at a high speed. The magnetic head, positioned on an actuator arm, moves radially across the disk's surface, accessing data stored in concentric tracks and sectors.
