In mathematics and statistics, multiplicative relationships and models are common. Examples include multiplicative functions f where f(ab) = f(a) f(b) for suitable a and b, and multiplicative error structures or models that express effects as products of factors. In many cases, taking logarithms turns multiplicative relations into additive ones, facilitating analysis.

In economics, multiplikatorische Effekte refer to multiplier effects: an initial change in autonomous spending leads to a larger final impact on national income due to successive rounds of spending and income generation. The concept is central to Keynesian macroeconomic analysis and to impact assessment in policy evaluation.
