Unlike a simple catalytic one-to-one transformation, a multiplicase yields nonlinear amplification of product under certain conditions.

In proposed models, multiplicase operates via amplification loops, autocatalysis, or positive feedback, whereby the initial product or activator enhances the activity of additional catalytic sites or recruits more enzyme molecules.
