The term is closely related to multimedia; in English, multimedial is less common and often replaced by multimedia or multimedia-enabled.

Multimedial implementations occur in education, museums, digital kiosks, websites, and presentations where text, graphics, sound, and video are coordinated. They may include interactive controls, navigable timelines, captions, search, and accessible alternatives to ensure inclusivity.

Historically, the concept reflects early experiments with combining media and became widespread with computer-based multimedia products in the late 20th century, such as CD-ROMs and hypermedia. With the rise of the web and mobile devices, multimedial design has become routine across media industries, emphasizing interoperability, performance, and accessibility.
