Multiequations refer to a set of equations that share a common set of unknowns and must be satisfied simultaneously. They can arise in algebraic, differential, or integral form and may be linear or nonlinear. In the typical algebraic setting, a system is represented in matrix form as Ax = b, where A is the coefficient matrix, x is the vector of unknowns, and b is the constants. The central task is to determine all vectors x that satisfy every equation in the collection at once.

The solution of a multiequation system depends on consistency and independence of the equations. A system may have a unique solution, infinitely many solutions forming a subspace (often described by free variables), or no solution if the equations are inconsistent.

Linear multiequations, the most studied case, are analyzed through the rank of matrices. If the rank of the coefficient matrix A equals the rank of the augmented matrix [A|b] and matches the number of unknowns, there is a unique solution. If the rank is less than the number of unknowns, there are infinitely many solutions. If the augmented matrix has a larger rank, the system is inconsistent and has no solution. Common methods for linear systems include Gaussian elimination and matrix factorizations; Cramer's rule applies to square nonsingular systems. Overdetermined systems may be addressed by least-squares methods.

Nonlinear and specialized multiequation systems require iterative or optimization-based approaches. Techniques such as Newton-Raphson, fixed-point iterations, or numerical continuation are used for nonlinear sets. When equations involve functions, differential or integral relations add further layers of analysis and boundary conditions.

Applications of multiequations span science and engineering, including modeling constraints in physics, electrical circuits, economics, data fitting, and network analysis, where multiple relations determine the state of a system.
