SMS works by transmitting messages through the signaling channels of a mobile network, rather than the voice channels. The message is stored by the network and delivered once the device is available.

Despite the rise of internet-based messaging applications, SMS remains a widely used and accessible form of communication. Its ubiquity, simplicity, and reliance on the core cellular network infrastructure make it a reliable option, particularly in areas with limited internet connectivity or for basic device compatibility.
