Miopática is a term used in medicine to describe conditions that affect the muscles. It is derived from the Greek words "myo" meaning muscle and "pathos" meaning disease or suffering. Therefore, miopática essentially refers to any disease or disorder of the muscles. These conditions can manifest in various ways, including muscle weakness, pain, stiffness, cramps, and fatigue. The causes of miopática conditions are diverse and can range from genetic mutations to autoimmune responses, infections, toxins, and metabolic disturbances.

There are many different types of miopática conditions. Some are inherited, such as muscular dystrophies, which involve the progressive degeneration of muscle fibers. Others are acquired, like myositis, an inflammation of the muscles that can be caused by autoimmune diseases or infections. Diagnosis of miopática conditions typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, blood tests to check for muscle enzymes, nerve conduction studies, electromyography (EMG) to assess muscle electrical activity, and sometimes muscle biopsy. Treatment strategies depend on the specific cause and type of miopática condition and may include physical therapy, medications to manage symptoms or underlying causes, and in some cases, assistive devices. While some miopática conditions can be managed, others may lead to significant disability.
