In cultures, they appear as photoautotrophs under moderate light and standard inorganic nutrients. Pigments commonly detected include chlorophyll a and carotenoids, consistent with green algal affinity; ecological records are limited, and many identifications rely on partial gene sequences.

Taxonomic status: The placement of Mikropyta remains unsettled. It is often treated as a provisional lineage or form genus until formal description or robust molecular data clarifies relationships. Some phylogenetic analyses group it with green algae (Chlorophyta), while others place it near the base of Viridiplantae or as incertae sedis within photosynthetic eukaryotes. Ongoing sequencing and cultivation efforts aim to resolve its taxonomy and potential species diversity.
