Mikrokanaleid, also known as microchannel plates or MCP, are devices used to amplify signals in various scientific and industrial applications. They consist of a thin glass plate with millions of tiny channels, each about 10 micrometers in diameter. When a charged particle or photon enters one of these channels, it causes a cascade of secondary electrons, leading to a significant amplification of the original signal. This amplification can be in the range of 10^6 to 10^8, making MCPs highly sensitive detectors for low-level signals.
