Midstation is a term used in several industries to denote an intermediate stop or facility located roughly midway between end points on a route or system. The exact meaning varies by context, but it generally refers to a point that is not a terminal, yet serves operational or service functions along the line or network.

In transportation, such as rail, metro, or light rail, a midstation is a station located between the end stations. It may provide passenger platforms, a passing loop for trains traveling in opposite directions, or an interchange with other lines. Midstations can improve service flexibility and reliability on long or mountainous routes by enabling trains to turn back, wait, or be staged away from termini.

In electrical networks, the more common term is substation, but a midline or midroute substation sits along a transmission or distribution corridor to transform voltage, switch circuits, and feed nearby lines. It supports system control, protection, and maintenance access, helping to manage flow and reliability along the route.

In cable car or aerial tramway systems, a midstation lies between the terminal stations and may allow passengers to transfer lines, provide access for rope or drive-system maintenance, or reduce the length of a single ropeway span. Some industrial or logistical networks use the term to describe an intermediate staging or processing point.
