Metsarahandus is a fictional genus of flowering plants created for speculative biology and world-building. In the imagined biota of the western Valara archipelago, Metsarahandus is placed in the family Metsarahandaceae, a small, monotypic lineage used in several collaborative projects to illustrate forest understory flora.

Etymology of the name combines elements from two constructed languages used by the world-building community: metsar meaning forest and handus meaning branch or growth. The genus name reflects its proposed ecology as a creeping understory plant with slender, branching stems.

Description and species. The genus currently includes two described species: Metsarahandus sylvarum and Metsarahandus lacustris. Plants are herbaceous perennials with creeping rhizomes. Stems grow about 8–20 cm tall; leaves are alternate, lanceolate, and finely veined. The inflorescence is a terminal panicle bearing small five-petaled flowers that are bluish to violet. The fruit is a small, dark capsule containing several seeds.

Distribution and habitat. Metsarahandus is described as endemic to temperate forest understories in shaded, moist sites of the Valara archipelago, often on limestone outcrops, at elevations roughly 100–900 meters. It is portrayed as shade-tolerant and slow-growing, forming sparse clonal colonies in undisturbed habitats.

Ecology and research. In the fictional account, the plants form mutualistic mycorrhizal associations and rely on native bees for pollination, with wind-assisted seed dispersal. The genus is used in narrative contexts to illustrate resilience and adaptation in fragmented forest environments.

In culture and media. Metsarahandus frequently appears in world-building literature and art as a symbol of subtle recovery and continuity within disturbed ecosystems.
