Metamorfisiin is a term used in speculative biology and some science-fiction writings to denote a hypothetical biological process in which an organism undergoes a rapid, coordinated transformation of body plan and physiology, effectively switching to a different ecological niche. The name combines the concept of metamorphosis with a Finnish-inflected form, and is encountered mainly in non-English sources. In this framework, metamorfisiin would be triggered by environmental cues, stress, or energetic thresholds and would activate a developmental program that reshapes tissues, organs, and regulatory networks.

Proposed mechanisms include widespread epigenetic reprogramming, reconfiguration of stem cell lineages, major shifts in gene expression, and remodeling of the cytoskeleton and extracellular matrix. A single metamorfisiin event might involve changes from a larval phenotype optimized for feeding to an adult phenotype optimized for reproduction, or even a switch between fundamentally different body plans.

In practice, metamorfisiin remains theoretical. No verified organism has demonstrated a complete, rapid metamorphosis in the sense defined by the term, and many scientists regard such a rapid, comprehensive transformation as implausible given current understanding of developmental biology and energetic constraints.
