Mesenchymální refers to cells of mesenchymal origin. Mesenchymal cells are a type of stem cell found in connective tissue throughout the body. They are multipotent, meaning they can differentiate into a variety of specialized cell types, including osteoblasts (bone cells), chondrocytes (cartilage cells), myocytes (muscle cells), and adipocytes (fat cells).

During embryonic development, mesenchyme is a loosely organized collection of cells that forms the precursor to many connective tissues. In adults, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are found in various tissues such as bone marrow, adipose tissue, and the umbilical cord. They are characterized by their ability to self-renew and their differentiation potential.

The therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cells is an active area of research. They are being investigated for their ability to treat a wide range of conditions, including autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. Their immunomodulatory properties, meaning they can influence the immune system, are particularly important in this context.
