Merivoimat, or the Finnish Navy, is the naval branch of the Finnish Defence Forces. It is responsible for safeguarding Finland’s territorial waters, conducting maritime surveillance, and supporting land operations along the coast. The navy undertakes anti-ship defense, mine warfare, coastal patrol, search and rescue, and logistics for naval operations. In peacetime it also supports maritime safety, border control, and disaster response, and it participates in international exercises and missions, including cooperation with allied navies after Finland joined NATO.
