Merevägede, meaning "naval forces" in Estonian, refers to the branch of the Estonian Defence Forces responsible for maritime operations. Its primary mission is to ensure the security of Estonia's territorial waters and exclusive economic zone, as well as to contribute to the defence of the Baltic Sea region.

The Estonian Navy was re-established in 1993, following the restoration of Estonia's independence. Since then, it has undergone significant modernization and development, acquiring new vessels and enhancing its capabilities. The Navy's current structure includes various types of ships, such as minehunters, patrol boats, and support vessels.

Key tasks of the merevägede include mine countermeasures, maritime surveillance, border control at sea, and participation in international naval operations and exercises. The Navy also plays a crucial role in search and rescue operations within its area of responsibility. Cooperation with allied and partner navies, particularly within NATO and the European Union, is a cornerstone of the merevägede's operational strategy, allowing for interoperability and collective maritime security. The Estonian Navy contributes to regional stability and security through its active engagement in multinational efforts.
