Meniskin is a term that can refer to a few different things, primarily in the context of optics and liquid behavior. In optics, a meniscus lens is a lens that has one surface that is convex and another surface that is concave. This shape allows for specific focusing or diverging of light, and they are commonly used in combination with other lenses to correct for aberrations or achieve desired optical properties in telescopes, cameras, and eyeglasses. The degree of curvature on each surface determines whether the lens is overall converging or diverging.

In fluid dynamics, the term "meniscus" describes the curved upper surface of a liquid in a tube. This curvature arises from the interplay of cohesive forces (attraction between liquid molecules) and adhesive forces (attraction between the liquid and the container walls). If the adhesive forces are stronger than the cohesive forces, the liquid will "wet" the surface, and the meniscus will be concave, as seen with water in a glass tube. Conversely, if cohesive forces dominate, the liquid will pull away from the walls, forming a convex meniscus, typical of mercury in glass.
