Mellanstadiet is the middle stage of Sweden’s compulsory education system, typically covering grades 4 through 6 and serving students around ages 10 to 12. It sits between lågstadiet (grades 1–3) and högstadiet (grades 7–9). The term reflects a transitional period in which students build on foundational skills while taking on greater academic and social responsibilities.

The curriculum during mellanstadiet follows the national framework for grundskolan and includes core subjects such as Swedish, mathematics, English, science (biology, physics, chemistry), social studies (geography, history, civics), arts and crafts, music, physical education, and religion or ethics.
