melanosomer
Melanosomer is not a standard term in modern cell biology. The organelle responsible for pigment synthesis and storage in pigment cells is usually called the melanosome. Melanosomes are found in melanocytes of the skin and hair follicles, as well as in retinal pigment epithelium, and they play a central role in coloration and protection from ultraviolet radiation.
Melanosomes are membrane-bound organelles that originate in the endosomal-lysosomal system. They go through a maturation process
Biogenesis and trafficking: Melanosomes form in early endosomes of melanocytes and mature as they are transported
Clinical relevance and variation: Defects in melanosome formation, maturation, or transport underlie several pigmentary disorders. Examples
