Melaniinia is a term that has appeared in a few non-specialist discussions as a pigment related to melanin. It is not recognized as a distinct chemical entity in major scientific databases or by standard nomenclature, and there is no consensus on its existence, structure, or properties. Because there is no authoritative definition, the word is sometimes used as a misnomer for melanin or as a hypothetical, melanin-like pigment in speculative contexts.

In the absence of a formal description, there is no established synthesis or biosynthesis, no known molecular formula, and no reproducible measurements.
