Meghalaya is a state in Northeast India. It is known as the "abode of the clouds." The capital and largest city is Shillong. Meghalaya was formed by carving out two districts from the state of Assam: the United Khasi Hills and the Jaintia Hills, and the Garo Hills. Meghalaya attained full statehood on January 21, 1972.
The state is bordered by Assam to the north and northeast, and by Bangladesh to the south
