Mediaentries refers to the collection of records that describe media assets stored in a system. Each entry represents a single media item and typically separates metadata from the actual file data. In practice, mediaentries are used in digital asset management, content management, and media libraries to organize, search, and retrieve media resources.

A mediaentry usually includes an identifier and a set of metadata fields such as type (image, video, audio, document), title, description, filename or storage path, mime type, size, duration for timed media, dimensions for images, and timestamps for creation and modification. Additional fields may cover provenance, rights information, copyright notices, tags, and relationships to collections or albums.

Entries often reference the actual media file stored in a file system, object storage, or a dedicated media repository. Thumbnails, captions, subtitles, or alternate formats may be linked as related resources. In many systems, mediaentries are stored in a database, while the media binaries are kept in separate storage, linked via a stable identifier.

Common operations include listing, filtering by type, tag, date, or collection, and CRUD actions on entries. APIs expose endpoints to create, read, update, or delete mediaentries, and to fetch related data such as previews or metadata in batches. Access control and versioning are frequently applied to manage permissions and history.

Standards and interoperability considerations include adopting metadata schemas such as Dublin Core or IPTC, and embedding metadata within file formats (exif, xmp). The concept is implementation-specific, so dashboards, search indexes, and data models may vary between systems while maintaining a shared understanding of a mediaentry as a record describing a media asset.
