The position of the median is then calculated as N/2. The median class is the first class interval whose cumulative frequency is greater than or equal to N/2.

For example, if a dataset has a total of 100 observations (N=100), the median position is 100/2 = 50. If the cumulative frequencies are such that the first class ends at cumulative frequency 30, and the second class ends at cumulative frequency 55, then the second class is the median class because it is the first class interval to reach or exceed the median position of 50.
