maradjanak

Maradjanak is a Hungarian verb form derived from maradni ('to stay'). It is the third-person plural present subjunctive (optative) form and is used to express a wish, a suggestion, or a polite command meaning "let them stay."

The form is built from the stem marad- plus the subjunctive plural suffix -janak. Because Hungarian vowel harmony applies, this is the standard form after back-vowel stems. The corresponding singular present subjunctive is maradjon ('let him/her stay').

Usage: It appears in hortative or formal sentences addressed to a group, such as public notices, official recommendations, or formal speech. Examples: Maradjanak otthon, amíg a helyzet javul. Maradjanak itt még egy percig, kérem. Maradjanak távol a lezárt területektől.

Notes: In everyday speech, speakers often use the imperative mood for direct commands to a group, for example maradjatok. The present subjunctive form maradjanak remains common in written language and formal discourse.
