Mandulagyulladás, also known as tonsillitis, is an inflammation of the tonsils, which are two oval-shaped pads of lymphoid tissue located at the back of the throat. This condition is most commonly caused by viral infections, such as the common cold or flu. However, bacterial infections, particularly Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Streptococcus), can also be responsible. Symptoms of tonsillitis typically include a sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever, and swollen tonsils that may appear red and have white or yellow patches or streaks. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck are also a common sign.
