Lymph nodes act as filters for lymph fluid, trapping pathogens and foreign substances. The spleen filters blood, removing old red blood cells and housing lymphocytes and macrophages. Tonsils and Peyer's patches are strategically located at sites of potential pathogen entry, such as the respiratory and digestive tracts, respectively, providing an initial line of defense.
