Ejaculation is the discharge of semen from the penis during orgasm or intense sexual stimulation. It is the final phase of the male sexual response and is governed by coordinated neural and hormonal mechanisms. In women, a related phenomenon known as female ejaculation involves the expulsion of fluid from the urethra in some individuals during arousal.

Ejaculation comprises two coordinated processes: emission, during which spermatozoa and secretions from the seminal vesicles and prostate are moved into the posterior urethra; and ejaculation proper, a series of rhythmic pelvic floor contractions that propel semen through the urethral opening. Nerve pathways include autonomic and somatic components, with spinal reflexes mediated at the sacral level.

Timing and disorders: For many individuals, ejaculation occurs within minutes of penetration, but there is wide variability. Premature ejaculation is a common concern when ejaculation occurs too quickly and consistently. Delayed ejaculation or anejaculation can also occur. Management may include behavioral techniques, counseling, topical or oral medications, and treatment of underlying medical conditions if present.

Female ejaculation and terminology: The existence and nature of female ejaculation are subjects of ongoing research and debate. Some individuals report urethral fluid release associated with sexual stimulation; its composition and clinical significance are not fully understood. Cultural and medical perspectives on ejaculation vary across societies.
