Læderere are craftsmen who work with animal hides to produce leather and leather goods. The term covers the process from raw hides to finished material, including tanning, curing, drying, and finishing. They have historically been involved in preparing leather for clothing, footwear, belts, saddlery, book bindings, and other uses where durable material is required.

Historically, læderere in Denmark and other Nordic regions operated as specialized trades often organized in urban guilds. They procured hides from hunters, butchers, or traders, processed them through tanning methods—plant-based or mineral tannins, liming and fleshing, and controlled drying—and then finished the leather with oil, wax, or dyes. The craft required knowledge of different animal hides, tanning agents, moisture control, and tool skills for cutting, stitching, and dyeing.

In the modern era, the term læderere is mostly found in historical contexts or among scholars and artisans. Industrial tanning and large-scale leather production have largely transformed the field, but contemporary Danish leatherworkers may still identify as tanners or leather artisans, focusing on hand-made or small-batch goods. Læderere today are often associated with artisanal shops, museums, and heritage projects that preserve traditional tanning techniques and craftsmanship.
