länsrätten

Länsrätten was a type of administrative court in Sweden that existed until June 30, 2009. Its primary function was to handle cases concerning the lawfulness of decisions made by county administrative boards (länsstyrelser) and other government authorities at the county level. This included a wide range of matters such as social welfare, taxation, environmental protection, and permits.

The länsrätten served as the first instance for appeals against many administrative decisions. If a party was dissatisfied with a decision made by a länsrätten, they could appeal to the kammarrätten, which was the next level of administrative court. The länsrätten system was part of Sweden's broader administrative justice system, designed to provide a judicial review of governmental actions.

The abolition of the länsrätten was part of a major reform of the Swedish administrative courts. On July 1, 2009, the länsrätter were merged with the kammarrätter to form new administrative courts called Förvaltningsrätt. This reform aimed to streamline the judicial process and create a more unified system for administrative justice in Sweden. The new Förvaltningsrätt courts now fulfill the role previously held by the länsrätten, serving as the primary courts of appeal for administrative decisions.
