Lämpöilmaisimia, commonly known as heat detectors, are devices designed to sense and signal the presence of fire through thermal detection. Unlike smoke detectors that rely on visible smoke particles, heat detectors respond to a rise in ambient temperature or the detection of a specific temperature threshold. This makes them particularly useful in environments where smoke detectors might be prone to false alarms, such as kitchens with cooking fumes or workshops with dust.

There are two primary types of heat detectors: fixed-temperature detectors and rate-of-rise detectors. Fixed-temperature detectors activate when the temperature reaches a predetermined level, typically around 57 or 77 degrees Celsius (135 or 170 degrees Fahrenheit), depending on the model and intended application. Rate-of-rise detectors, on the other hand, trigger an alarm if the temperature increases rapidly over a short period, even if it doesn't reach the fixed-temperature threshold. This is often indicative of a fast-developing fire. Some detectors combine both mechanisms for enhanced reliability.

Heat detectors are typically powered by a central fire alarm system or can be self-contained units with their own power source. They are often used in conjunction with smoke detectors to provide comprehensive fire protection. Their installation is common in industrial settings, garages, attics, and other areas where the conditions might compromise the effectiveness of smoke detection. Regular testing and maintenance are crucial to ensure their proper functioning and timely response in the event of a fire.
