Lämmönsiirtosykli, or heat transfer cycle, is a fundamental concept in thermodynamics and heat engineering. It describes the process by which heat is transferred from one medium to another, typically from a high-temperature source to a low-temperature sink. The cycle consists of four main processes: heating, work output, cooling, and work input.

In a heat transfer cycle, heat is added to a working fluid in the heating process, causing it to expand and perform work, such as driving a turbine or engine. This work output is then used to perform useful tasks, such as generating electricity or providing mechanical power. The working fluid then cools down and is returned to its original state through the cooling process. To complete the cycle, additional work is input to return the fluid to its initial high-temperature state, ready for the next cycle.

The efficiency of a heat transfer cycle is determined by the Carnot efficiency, which is a theoretical maximum for the efficiency of heat engines. The Carnot efficiency is given by the formula (T1 - T2) / T1, where T1 is the temperature of the high-temperature source and T2 is the temperature of the low-temperature sink. In practice, real heat engines operate at efficiencies lower than the Carnot efficiency due to irreversibilities and losses in the system.

Heat transfer cycles are used in various applications, including power generation, refrigeration, and air conditioning. They are also studied in thermodynamics to understand the fundamental principles of energy conversion and transfer.
