Lyginsi is a fictional genus of flowering plants created for use in worldbuilding and speculative biology. In the imagined ecology, Lyginsi belongs to the family Asteraceae and comprises several species adapted to temperate meadow and coastal scrub habitats in a fictional region known as the Lygin Basin.

Etymology and scope. The name Lyginsi is presented in the project as a Latinized designation derived from the region’s name. The genus is described as having diversified into multiple species that occupy distinct ecological niches within the same broad landscape, illustrating patterns of adaptive radiation in a contained ecosystem.

Description and species. Typical Лyginsi plants are described as herbaceous perennials with erect stems, alternately arranged leaves, and composite flower heads featuring pale yellow ligulate rays surrounding central disc florets. The project highlights two representative species: Lyginsi montanum, which is adapted to higher elevations with longer-lasting inflorescences, and Lyginsi littoralis, found in coastal scrub and possessing slightly tougher foliage to resist salt spray. In both species, floral morphology and phenology are used to explore pollinator interactions and seasonal resource dynamics.

Taxonomic status and usage. Lyginsi is not recognized by real-world taxonomic authorities and exists solely within fictional or pedagogical contexts. It is often employed as a teaching tool to discuss concepts such as speciation, biogeography, and the limits of taxonomy in hypothetical ecosystems, as well as to illustrate how plant traits relate to habitat.
