Lygin
Lygin is a fictional character appearing in the works of author H.P. Lovecraft. He is primarily featured in the short story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" as a descendant of the Innsmouth family and a representative of the degenerate populace of that cursed town. Lygin embodies the decaying physical and moral state of the Innsmouth inhabitants, often described as having the distinctive Innsmouth look. He is one of the many individuals who greet the protagonist, Robert Blake, upon his arrival in the town. Lygin's role in the narrative is to serve as an early indicator of the strangeness and horror that awaits Blake, his appearance and demeanor unsettling and foreshadowing the deeper, more sinister secrets of Innsmouth. He is not a central figure but rather a background element contributing to the pervasive atmosphere of dread and decay. His existence highlights the genetic and societal corruption that Lovecraft often explored in his mythos.
