Lungtumörer, also known as lung neoplasms, are abnormal growths of cells in the lungs. These tumors can be benign, meaning they are non-cancerous and do not spread, or malignant, meaning they are cancerous and can invade surrounding tissues and metastasize to other parts of the body. Lung cancer is a major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.

The most common cause of lung tumors, particularly malignant ones, is smoking. Exposure to secondhand smoke, radon gas, asbestos, and air pollution are also significant risk factors. Genetic predisposition can also play a role.

Symptoms of lung tumors can vary depending on their size, location, and whether they are benign or malignant. Common symptoms of malignant lung tumors include a persistent cough, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, chest pain, wheezing, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss. Benign lung tumors are often asymptomatic and discovered incidentally during imaging tests for other conditions.

Diagnosis typically involves imaging techniques such as chest X-rays and CT scans, followed by a biopsy to determine the exact type of tumor and whether it is cancerous. Treatment options depend on the type and stage of the tumor and may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and targeted drug therapy. Early detection significantly improves the prognosis for malignant lung tumors.
