luchtperspectief
Luchtperspectief, also known as atmospheric perspective, is an artistic technique used in painting and drawing to create an illusion of depth and distance. It relies on the observation that the atmosphere has a visible effect on how we perceive distant objects. As objects recede into the distance, they appear less distinct, less saturated in color, and lighter in tone. This is because light scatters as it travels through the air, particularly the shorter blue wavelengths, making distant objects appear bluer and softer.
Artists employ luchtperspectief by systematically altering the color, clarity, and contrast of elements within a composition.
