lowglycogen
Lowglycogen refers to a state where the body's glycogen stores are depleted. Glycogen is the stored form of glucose, the primary energy source for the body, mainly found in the liver and muscles. When carbohydrate intake is low, or during prolonged periods of intense physical activity, glycogen stores are used up. This can lead to a condition sometimes informally referred to as "bonking" or hitting "the wall," particularly in endurance athletes. Symptoms can include fatigue, weakness, reduced performance, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. The body then relies more heavily on fat for energy, a process that is generally slower and less efficient for high-intensity activities. Maintaining adequate carbohydrate intake and proper training can help prevent critically low glycogen levels. The body can replenish glycogen stores through consuming carbohydrates, with a preference for easily digestible forms post-exercise.
